(back) Subject: REVERSE RELAY From: "Robert Eversman" <highnote@mhtc.net> Date: Thu, 16 Mar 2000 14:02:45 -0600   I have an unusual situation where my pedal stop switches require positive current and the manual stop switches require negative to be "on". Right = now the stop rail has a single common which can go either way quite easily. My solution might be to separate the common on the stop rail (pedal stops = from that of the manual stops) but it will not be easy since most of the organ is right on the console. Since there are only 6 pedal stops couldn't I install some sort of reverse relay so that - can be changed to +. This way I can leave the current stop rail design alone.   Why is my set up like this you ask? Because I am combining two completely different relays which work perfectly together except for this little hitch.   Any advise will be most welcome (except buy a new relay !!! LOL).   Thanks   Robert Eversman Mineral Point, WI

There are several approaches to this problem and the best one might depend upon several variables.   To make it simple, since there are few stop switches involved, one = approach would be to get some simple relays (electro-mechanical switches!) that could be operated from the stoptabs and could in turn produce the proper polarity for the corresponding "organ" relay.   If you don't like e/m relays, you can always "switch" (HA!) to various solid-state devices such as CMOS inverters (CD4049, for example) or = drivers such as the ULN200x family.   (If you don't recognize those terms, go to Radio Shack and look at their little relays!)   Larry Chace
