Spencer blower - Century motor

(back) Subject: Spencer blower - Century motor From: "Jon Fick" <jon@VermontFicks.org> Date: Tue, 9 Oct 2001 11:13:15 -0400   I repaired a sticking brush in our Century 1/2HP repulsion start motor necklace two weeks ago and restored what I thought was reliable operation = to our Spencer blower. Every day I tried it during the last two weeks it started immediately without a hiccup...until Sunday, whereby it would = again not start properly.   What with the latest unreliable operation of our blower, and after talking to two local motor shops (who specifically repair Century motors) I've decided to replace the motor with a 21st century capacitor start motor. = The desire to mitigate frustration trumps any thoughts about historical accuracy.   Two thoughts...   1) I'll keep the list posted regarding the Grainger part number and mount details. It will probably mean I'll do some welding.   2) Does anybody want the old Century 1/2HP motor for parts? Shipping will undoubtedly be expensive!   Jon Fick Christ Memorial Church Williston, Vermont
