(back) Subject: Newbie From: "W. D. Heimer" <dheimer@sensible.net> Date: Wed, 10 Jul 2002 19:34:26 -0600   This is a multi-part message in MIME format.   ------=3D_NextPart_000_000E_01C22848.CD699400 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=3D"iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable   Yo' Organ List Guys, I'm new to the list, been lurkin' and reading the = =3D archives for the past coupla weeks. Here's my story, an I'm sticken to = =3D it.   Like most of us, I started out small time, you know, piano lessons at =3D age eight. By jr. high I started to get into the heavy stuff , =3D Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms. Then my piano teacher/pusher really slipped = =3D the hook in me, Bach, ahhhh Bach. None of that candyassed CPE, JC or =3D WF, but the pure JS. I began with small doses, Two Part Inventions, =3D WTK, The Little 'Ludes & Fugues. The next thing I knew, I had a full =3D blown Bach habit, playing Bach on the xylophone, euphonium, and a lot of = =3D other instruments that are hard to spell.   While in high school my addiction reached an even more fervent pitch. I = =3D was given organ lessons, and on a 4 manual Moller to boot. I done hit =3D the mother lode of counterpoint, a veritable plethora of polyphony, but = =3D enough of this polysyllablatic prattle, the saga continues...   I wasn't just content to just play the thing, nooooo, I had to know what = =3D was inside, so... one summer I sold my body to a local organ service =3D company....real cheap (but hey, it wasn't much of a body, even back =3D then). I started out holding keys, then tuning, building chests, =3D service calls. I kept coming back for more and more, my confidence =3D grew, unfortunately my talent didn't. Mr. Fabrey, my boss usually fired = =3D me about once a month, Ya gotta remember, this was the seventies and I =3D was an 18 year old hippie with a major atty-tude 'round some serious =3D republican types. But before I left Mr. Fabrey's employ I had gathered = =3D enough organ refuse to build a three rank unit, emphasis on the rank =3D part.....in my parents house.   When I brought home the first truckload Pop was just a might testy, so =3D discretion being the better part of cowardice, I neglected to inform =3D that there were two more truckloads. I just kinda snuck 'em in bit by = =3D bit. In retrospect it wasn't an organ, more organized junk. At the time = =3D I thought it was a Flentrop on steroids, but even Dr. Frankenstein =3D thought his monster had a certain j' ne sais quois.   My addiction with Bach and the organ abruptly ended because of my other = =3D bad habit, MOTORCYCLES. Broken legs, hips etc. do impact on ones pedal = =3D technique somewhat. So I took about a thirty year hiatus from my old =3D buddy JS.   I was clean for those thirty years, ok so I occasionally did some E. =3D Power Biggs, but only at parties. I moved to a small town in Georgia. = =3D Then about a year ago it happened... The organist needed a sub.... It =3D was either me or a cappela. The nightmare begins... again.   I've leared to control my habit....I thought. Somehow the Monster In =3D The Cellar started to grow. It started out as a six rank Estey chest =3D with an Korg midi'ed to it. Then came the pedals, the console, more =3D ranks, bigger lungs, ah blower, the brain, er, I mean relay, a newer =3D console..... It's ALLIVEEEEE   Hope y'all don't throw me off list for this, = =3D Dave Heimer   =3D20       ------=3D_NextPart_000_000E_01C22848.CD699400 Content-Type: text/html; charset=3D"iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable   <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META content=3D3D"text/html; charset=3D3Diso-8859-1" =3D http-equiv=3D3DContent-Type> <META content=3D3D"MSHTML 5.00.2614.3500" name=3D3DGENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT face=3D3DArial size=3D3D2>Yo'&nbsp; Organ List Guys,&nbsp; =3D I'm&nbsp;new=3D20 to&nbsp;the list, been lurkin' and reading the archives for the past =3D coupla=3D20 weeks.&nbsp; Here's my story, an I'm sticken to it.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D3DArial size=3D3D2>Like most of us, I started out small = =3D time, you=3D20 know, piano lessons at age eight.&nbsp; By jr. high I started to =3D get&nbsp;into=3D20 the heavy&nbsp; stuff , Beethoven, Chopin, Brahms.&nbsp; Then my = piano=3D20 teacher/pusher really&nbsp;slipped the hook in me, Bach, ahhhh =3D Bach.&nbsp; None=3D20 of that candyassed CPE, JC or WF, but the pure JS.&nbsp; I began with =3D small=3D20 doses, Two Part Inventions,&nbsp;WTK, The Little 'Ludes &amp; Fugues. =3D The next=3D20 thing I knew, I had a full blown Bach habit, playing Bach on the =3D xylophone,=3D20 euphonium, and a lot of other instruments that are hard to =3D spell.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D3DArial size=3D3D2>While in high school my addiction =3D reached an even=3D20 more fervent pitch.&nbsp; I was given organ lessons, and on a 4 manual =3D Moller to=3D20 boot.&nbsp; I done hit the mother lode of counterpoint, a veritable =3D plethora of=3D20 polyphony, but enough of this polysyllablatic prattle, the saga=3D20 continues...</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D3DArial size=3D3D2>I wasn't just content to just play = the =3D thing,=3D20 nooooo, I had to know what was inside,&nbsp; so... one summer I sold my = =3D body to=3D20 a local organ service company....real cheap (but hey, it&nbsp;wasn't =3D much of a=3D20 body, even back then).&nbsp;&nbsp;I started out holding keys, then =3D tuning,=3D20 building chests, service calls.&nbsp;&nbsp;I kept coming back for more =3D and more,=3D20 my confidence grew, unfortunately my talent didn't.&nbsp; Mr. Fabrey, my = =3D boss=3D20 usually fired me about once a month, Ya gotta remember, this was the =3D seventies=3D20 and I was an 18 year old hippie with a major atty-tude 'round some =3D serious=3D20 republican types.&nbsp; But before I left Mr. Fabrey's employ I had =3D gathered=3D20 enough organ refuse to build a three rank unit, emphasis on the rank =3D part.....in=3D20 my parents house.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D3DArial size=3D3D2>When I brought&nbsp;home the first = =3D truckload Pop=3D20 was just a might testy, so discretion being the better part of =3D cowardice, I=3D20 neglected to inform that there were two more truckloads.&nbsp;&nbsp; I =3D just=3D20 kinda snuck 'em in bit by bit.&nbsp; In retrospect it wasn't an organ, =3D more=3D20 organized junk.&nbsp; At the time I thought it was a Flentrop on =3D steroids, but=3D20 even Dr. Frankenstein thought his monster had&nbsp;a certain j' ne = sais=3D20 quois.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D3DArial size=3D3D2>My addiction with Bach and the organ = =3D abruptly ended=3D20 because of my other bad habit, MOTORCYCLES.&nbsp;&nbsp; Broken legs, =3D hips etc.=3D20 do impact on ones pedal technique somewhat.&nbsp; So I&nbsp;took about a = =3D thirty=3D20 year hiatus from my old buddy JS.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3D3DArial size=3D3D2>I was clean for those thirty years, = ok =3D so I=3D20 occasionally did some E.
