(back) Subject: Access to a Church's Instrument From: Mewzishn@aol.com Date: Sun, 3 Aug 1997 18:32:12 -0400 (EDT)   Tom Rishel writes of difficulty in getting permission to play in his home parish. I'm sorry to hear that, makes me wish he was a parishioner of mine here on Long Island.   We've initiated an "organ scholar" program at my parish of 6,000+ families. Each year, four people are selected (high school age and adult) to receive regular lessons, and in return when they're able they play for masses as scheduled. We have three so far this year -- we require at least an intermediate level of ability on piano -- with an age range of about 15 to 65.   So, Tom, if you ever move to Long Island, look us up. : )   Ken Sybesma St Raphael Parish, East Meadow NY
(back) Subject: Organ Company Brochures From: cremona84000@webtv.net (bruce cornely) Date: Sun, 3 Aug 1997 21:17:00 -0400   While doing some cleaning I have un earthed a collection of organ company brochures from the 1950's and 60's. Companies include AEolian- Skinner, Austin, Casavant, Reuter, and some miscellaneous brochures on individual organs of Harrison & Harrison and others.   If there are any collectors who might be interested in these, please let me know privately.   Bruce Cornely ============ o o o o ============== o o o ______________ o o o o o o ______________ o o o OHS ======================== AGO
(back) Subject: Wanamaker Organ Concert From: Claire <cwhiting@p3.net> Date: Sun, 3 Aug 1997 21:36:52 -0400   Question: How does one become a Friend of the Wanamaker >Organ? There will be a "friends" presence there for at least Wed & Sat. There are envelopes to mail in or join right there. When the organ is not being played - go up to the console area - more sign-up envelopes are there - or contact me and I'll get the info to anyone interested. We have to support the Lord & Taylor store & let them know how important the organ is. A big concern is that with too many floors being converted to office space - it will change the sound of it. Also, the pipe chambers might not be open for tours (string section) as in the past since they are in the office areas now. Friends puts out a newsletter several times a yr - updates on the restoration & other interesting facts. Back copies are available. (sets).   Look for me on Sat - near the Friends table or near the eagle most likely - I'll try to remember to wear my Friends Volunteer badge.   I hope that all of the others that emailed me they were coming will look for me - I plan to be there all day on Sat. and if surgery goes well on Tues - I am hoping to be there all day Wed. 8/6 too. I'd like to meet you all. Claire

Many comments have been made on this and other lists about the declining interest in these great instruments and our "posters" have encouraged making the instruments and their music available to more and possibly younger musicians. The scholar program in St Raphael Parish shows us yet another way of "marketing" organ music to our next generation! Congratulations and a big "thank you" to St. Raphael Parish!   Bob pipeluvr@aol.com
