(back) Subject: Re: Conn Theater Organs From: GRS Co LVR <GRSCoLVR@aol.com> Date: Fri, 5 Dec 1997 22:08:52 EST   Hi Jillian: A newbie on the BB list,,,but an older player and tech both pipe and electronic............Have been at this business for 35 years.....You are gettin a good one...The Conn will probably outlive you,,,,tubes are not really a problem,,,,most all are still made today, altho a bit expensive these days. BUT,,,they don't go bad that often.....I might suggest that with that many in the Conn,,,you might want to look at getting an old tube tester from a flea market if there are any in your area,,,or check the listings in AOL under the used electronics stuff. A tube tester is almost a necessity today to be sure that what you are changing is the component that has gone wrong,,,unlike the old days where you would just replace a tube with one out of stock,,,and if it worked,,,,you were in like Flynn,,,but not many people carry tube stocks today........Just as a point of interest,,,,I owned a CG Conn Connsonata 2A2 model bought used in 1963 and kept it till I got a large used Allen,,,kept it about 20 years, and only replaced about 4 tubes in all that time,,,,,and besides,,,was great at keeping the music room warm when ON,,,,they do produce a bit of heat output from all those tube filaments....Good Luck with the Conn........   Roc

(back) Subject: Organist needed!!! Long Island, NY From: Myosotis51 <Myosotis51@aol.com> Date: Sat, 6 Dec 1997 10:41:30 EST   The First Presbyterian Church in Islip, NY is desparately looking for an organist. Their current musician is retiring in a few weeks, and they don't have anyone lined up. I'm being asked to sub, but they're an hour from my house in good weather, and January is NOT good weather!   Anyone interested? I don't know more info than this, but you can email   eric370959@aol.com   for more information.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Vicki Ceruti Myosotis51@aol.com~~~~~~~~~~~~
(back) Subject: Re: Newbie on list / full organ trems From: "Jim Saenger" <chamade@Early.COM> Date: Sat, 06 Dec 97 11:24:34 PST   Hammond and gospel-type effects seem easy to understand in a context of trems with full organ. The trems on a TO are generally pneumatic and usually on, so wind supply is not a problem. It seems interesting to realize that even old French organs were fitted with a Tremblant Forte which was often used with full organ. And they were pneumatic 'dump' trems.   Jim Saenger   ---------- > > Amazing,,,,I have been playing pipe organ, both theatre and "straight" for > near 40 years,,,and I have never considered using a tremulant "trem" with a > full straight organ with people singing.....I can't imagine what the effect > would be,,,,but also being a pipe organ technician as well for night onto 40 > years,,, I think that the trem unit must be an electronically controlled > one,,,cause the old purely pneumatic units would have trouble keeping up with > that much air usage,,,,,,HmmmmmmmFull Organ and Trem,,,might just have to try > it,,,the thought never crossed my mind. > > Roc > > "Pipe Up and Be Heard!" > PipeChat: A discussion List for pipe/digital organs & related topics > HOMEPAGE : http://www.pipechat.org > List: mailto:pipechat@pipechat.org > Administration: mailto:admin@pipechat.org > Subscribe/Unsubscribe: mailto:requests@pipechat.org > >
