(back) Subject: Christmas a little early From: Adam Levin <email@example.com> Date: Sat, 13 Dec 1997 14:08:31 -0500 (EST) I finally got my shipment from OHS and have listened to parts from all of the CDs. I got five CDs: The Complete Chapman/Wanamaker Recordings David Drury: Music For A Grand Organ (Sydney Town Hall) Peter Sykes: Holst The Planets (Girard College Chapel) Todd Wilson: In A Quiet Cathedral (St. Philip, Atlanta) Thomas Murray: The Transcriber's Art (Woolsey Hall) Wow, what a collection of organ literature and sound! The Sydney Town Hall organ is magnificent, the Wanamaker is, well, the Wanamaker, Holst's Planets has always been fun to listen to, and Mr. Sykes did an incredible job on the trascription (4 hands, two feet and a pencil to hold a long note indeed!), the Quiet Cathedral is one of the most beautiful and peaceful albums I've ever listened to, and Mr. Murray's recording is just plain fun. Now I've got a reasonably rounded out collection of organ CDs to last me for the next, oh, month or so. :) I love the Biggs Bach recordings, but it's nice to get a little variety. Pretty much all of those CDs were part of a larger list of recommendations that I collected from all of you helpful list members over the past few months, so thank you for the help in pointing me to some great recordings.
