(back) Subject: organ starter kit From: dave pitzer <dpitzer@sonic.net> Date: Mon, 17 Aug 1998 12:28:46 -0700   To those who have responded to my request for organ recordings to keep my nephew's new-found interest going:   The recordings (compositions) that particularly caught his interest were:   Bach: Prelude&Fugue in c BWV 546 [organ in Lubeck Cathedral, Germany] His comment was: "I LOVE the dissonance; I thought Bach worshiped harmony -- not here." Regarding the fugue and especially it's episodes: "But he just can't get away from that basic tune, can he? Cool."   Dupre: Preludio and Toccata from Symphony No. 2, op 26 [Cavaille-Coll in St. Antoine des Quinze-Vingt a Paris] Again, he liked the frenetic dissonance: "Sonds like he's working-off a tremendous anger, doesn't it?"   Jean Alain: Litanies "Sounds 'frustrated', like a trapped animal." he said. (Boy, did he unknowingly hit the mark there!)   Anyway, this gives you an idea of his general tastes -- and of how austute he is. Remember, he's just shy of 21 years old.   Dave Pitzer

(Suburban Phila., PA) Does anyone know of a pipe organ with Bob Walker MANUAL digital stop(s) close to Philadelphia, that I could hear? Since this may be a long-term project, or may never happen, I would prefer to go *quietly* to hear what has been done at another instrument. Please e-mail me privately if you can help. Thanks.   Peace, Bill Miller
