(back) Subject: Re: Organists in life - Followup From: <Aeolianorg@aol.com> Date: Sun, 5 Jul 1998 15:29:44 EDT   We are WAY off topic here! I'm sure that there are other lists for the discussion of sexuality.
(back) Subject: Re: Organists in life << STOP IT!!!! From: <Aeolianorg@aol.com> Date: Sun, 5 Jul 1998 15:34:41 EDT   Also close to unsubscribing... I enjoy reading about organs, not the sexuality of organists.

(back) Subject: lurker going nomail From: t.lammers@Fontys.nl Date: Mon, 6 Jul 1998 00:04:46 +0000   Hi girls and gays, excuse me, guys.   This lurker is going to have a well-earned vacation after months of hard work. So I didn't have time to contribute to the list. To avoid problems with my network manager because of an overfilled mailbox I'll temporarily go nomail (=unsubscribe). BTW: is organ music male or female? Or sexual in any way? Let's go back to real topics....   Greetings,   Tom   -=T.Lammers=- t.lammers@fontys.nl   Fontys Hogescholen PO Box 347 5600 AH Eindhoven Netherlands +31 40 260 5401
(back) Subject: RE: << STOP IT!!!! From: "Charles Brown" <clmoney@cybernex.net> Date: Sun, 5 Jul 1998 18:10:18 -0400   I feel that this discussion does make sense. There are some young people on here looking to make this there future profession and many areas of the US, especially in larger areas such as NYC, there are sexual politics going on within organizations such as the AGO.   Admittedly, it is not as bad now as when I was developing in the 50's and 60's. When i was a student the NY gay clique among the leading organist was nearly inpenetrable. As a result, by being "straight", I lost many opportunities I felt I could have had and was closed out of an awful lot. A fact that, to this day, I resent.   I applaud those who are using this forum to discuss problems and concerns honestly regarding this profession. That does not mean that I applaud heated discussion. I applaud rational, logical, and constructive debate and opinion.   Charles Brown   -----Original Message----- From: pipechat@pipechat.org [mailto:pipechat@pipechat.org]On Behalf Of Aeolianorg@aol.com Sent: Sunday, July 05, 1998 3:39 PM To: pipechat@pipechat.org Subject: Re: << STOP IT!!!!     If one must flame, please do it privately.   "Pipe Up and Be Heard!" (back) Subject: RE: << STOP IT!!!! From: danbel@earthlink.net Date: Sun, 05 Jul 1998 18:17:59 -0400   The list owner has SPECIFICALLY said that this thread is NOT to be continued on the public list.   Let us take that warning seriously before any more trouble is started here.   djb
(back) Subject: ADMIN POSTING -- EVERYONE READ From: "Dr. Peter G. Pocock" <pgpocock@ix.netcom.com> Date: Sun, 05 Jul 1998 18:22:40 -0700   Hi!   I returned late last night, from 10 days in Denver at the AGO, to find that topics are totally out of hand on the list. It seems, when the list owners are away, people think that they have the right to discuss any topic they choose. I will put it firmly and simply.   TOPICS WHICH ARE NOT RELATED TO PIPE/DIGITAL/ELECTRONIC ORGANS ARE NOT -- REPEAT NOT!!! -- APPROPRIATE FOR THIS LIST.   That includes sexuality, sexual politics, and almost every topic that has popped up in the last few weeks. You do not make a post appropriate by ranting about something totally off topic and then adding a little on organs at the end -- Sorry, that does not fly here at all.   In addition:   FLAMING IS ABSOLUTELY AND SPECIFICALLY FORBIDDEN.   If you are not able to be polite and kind to other list members, then please do not post at all. Also, it is clear that some emails are better answered privately, and not to the list. If you are not sure of our guidelines, then please read them at http://www.pipechat.org -- They are very clear as to what is and is not acceptable.   If you are not able to follow the guidelines, and insist on flaming others, then the appropriate action will be taken by the list owners.   To say that I am disappointed in the low level the list has reached in the last few weeks is putting it mildly. If this comtinues, we will seriously consider checking postings before they are processed, I hope that it does not come to that. In the list guidelines we state that you -- the members -- make the list what it it is -- I know that most of you do not want it to be what it has been in the last few weeks. It is up to you! Post quality postings which relate to the topics of the list, and you will receive quality in return. It is like that old computer saying -- Garbage in, garbage out -- how about "Quality in, Quality out."   I trust that you all will consider carefully what you post, and stick to the guidelines we have developed over the two years or so.   Thanks for being a part of Pipechat.   Dr. Peter Pocock Co-Owner and Administrator of PipeChat   Peter G. (back) Subject: Re: A Question or Two From: <RMaryman@aol.com> Date: Sun, 5 Jul 1998 22:29:09 EDT   Emily -   keep with the organ studies, it will be a source of enjoyment for you and others all the rest of your life.   I got my start because my dad was in Germany in WW2, and developed a love for the pipe organ and for .good, church music. He propositioned me to take 6 months of lessons if he would buy a (lowery spinnet) organ. I accepted, and have been playing ever since. I am also in the tuning/maintaining business which I got started in as a result of my involvement in several theatre organ rebuild projects for my (then) local ATOS chapter and a couple of privately owned instruments. I have had the good fortune to have worked with several "old-school" organ maintenance guys over the years and they have taought me lots in addition to my on-the-job learning experiences.   best wishes   Rick (I was a teenage organist - many years ago) Maryman

(back) Subject: Crystal Cathedral From: Mac Hayes <mach37@ptw.com> Date: Sun, 05 Jul 1998 23:01:49 -0700   Dear Pipechat list,   A good friend of mine has been following this subject on the list with great amusement. This person has asked that I post for them; under the circumstances they need to keep a low profile. He has gotten the information directly from the source.   "I cannot stand it any longer. If people want to know, then they should know the facts. The new organist for the Crystal Cathedral is not Heather Hinton, or Peter Baicchi, but Chistopher Pardini. All I know is that he is from the East coast somewhere, and that's all I know. I understand he plays well, but do not know of any of the circumstances of his hiring (which I know that there are many).   "Regarding Fred Swann, he resigned, not retired (go back to his letter of a couple of months ago). Schuller announced his retirement on T.V. to save public face. How would it appear in front of 60 million people to say that the Crystal Cathedral lost their organist of 15+ years to a church up the road? Fred will have less responsiblity (only having to play the organ), and overseeing the completion of the rebuild/additions at First Congregational Church, LA. This will leave him with more time to record (which I understand he will be doing a lot of at First Congo), concertize, and assist with the sales of Rodgers with friends of his (which he has been doing more and more in recent years) for the next 3 years until his real 'retirement.' Fred will keep a position of 'Organist Emeritus' at the Crystal Cathedral after he resigns; keeping an office there, and still having say in the organ and organ music program there. As a friend of mine recently said 'Boy is he certainly lucky. Having the 2 largest organs in the area, at the same time. Talk about having your cake, and eating it too.....'"   -- Mac Hayes mach37@ptw.com Cogito per aspera
