(back) Subject: Digital Camera Survey From: ORGANUT@aol.com Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 08:44:47 EDT   Hi List,   After evaluating the many responses to the following question;   < I am in the market for a Digital Camera for documenting TO Organ restoration and need some feedback and recommendations from any of you who =   own one. I figured, what better way to get a first hand consumer report, than to hear from individuals who have purchased and used one.   Specifically, I am interested in what features of the camera you like or = do not like. What do you think about the resolution, clarity, sharpness, focus of your particular camera? Can the data be downloaded to a computer? Is it user friendly? Price?>   I finally picked the SONY MVC-FD73. I has all of the goodies needed, = without an excess of gadgetry. The main feature is the use of standard floppy = disc for recording the digital image. WAL-MART sells this model for $499+ tax.   This is the greatest thing since the flushing commode! (:>   Thanks again for your input folks.   Later, Phil Lyons Jr.

(back) Subject: pipes, more pipes and questions From: John Vanderlee <jovanderlee@vassar.edu> Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 09:33:56 -0500   Dear list,   Again I come to the well with a thirst for your collective knowledge...   First question:   I have two sets of wooden flues (Melodias) and each set has the following printed on the wooden part of the toe: "pat'd Aug 8 '98, Feb 18 '07"   One set came from a small Hinners organ (TP) in Newburgh NY, the other = from "somewhere" in NYC.   The Hinners has metal trebles, the other all wood. Both sets differ slightly in appearance from each other. The question is: Are these from a common supplier? and perhaps who?   Second Question:   We are about to add a 16' extension to a Wurlitzer Tibia rank. We have no chamber space for same.(Chambers left and right of stage) Does the non-directionality of the bass allow us to mount these in a different location? i.e. ON stage in a wing? OR possibly horizontally in a space above and slightly forward of the stage? which brings the next question: The toes could not sit on the chest then and would have to be "tubed" to the chest; would that cause any speech problems? Anyone have = any experience with such setups?   As always, many thanks in advance,   John V

WAL-MART sells this model for $499+ = tax.   In my opinion, Phil, this is an excellent choice. In fact, I am waiting = for a brand new MVC-FD73 that I bought on the internet for $455, including the =   shipping cost...etc. The seller had a quantity of them on a Dutch Auction =   and I bid $450 + shipping. I plan now to give it a try, compare it with = my MVCFD7, and turn one or the other over to my daughter in exchange for = their Kodak digital (or have them sell the Kodak and give me the proceeds to = offset the cost of the Sony).   Their Kodak has the disadvantage of using batteries that cost an arm and a =   leg, slow downloading time and very limited capabilities compared to the = Sony.   I just finished talking with Leah Tomlinson (Jerry's wife -- Jerry is the former owner of the Rodgers), and secured the work number for Jerry. I called him just now and he has no objections to hearing from you and = said he would be home this evening. His phone number is 317-299-2365.   You two should get along quite well. Good luck! gene hamilton

(back) Subject: Organ art From: "Steven Margison" <steve@organman.com> Date: Wed, 11 Aug 1999 09:36:44 -0500   I know this has been asked and answered before, but I never needed it = until now. I am making some awards on my website to give to other websites and I need some artwork with an organ theme. Pipes would be good, so would consoles. It has to be something that I can freely use and give to other people who receive my award. If you have personal pictures that you would be willing to let me use and edit, that's just fine and dandy. (I will have to do some serious editing to make a fairly small icon and add text = to it.) If you know of any sites that have such artwork please let me know. Perhaps privately and off-list (steve@organman.com) would be best. Anyone have = any > experience with such setups?   In my experience tubed off pipes speak much better, the tube acts as a = shock absorber (much like the windways in a slider chest) therefore the pipes = speak more clearly without going harmonic for a split second.   Your Melodia question....   I too have many ranks of pipes that have that stamped on the toes. = The toes are all made by the same manufacturer. It was much cheaper and time efficent to order the toes from a supply company rather than have someone turn toes all day, and make cast lead points for them.   -William C.
