There is a brief biography of him on the publisher Stainer & Bell's webpage at http://www.stainer.co.uk/jacob   I hope this helps,   John.

(back) Subject: Re: a couple of things From: cremona84000@webtv.net (bruce cornely) Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 22:46:56 -0500 (EST)   The Organist's Book of Days is a wonderful perpetual calendar compiled by Rollin Smith and available from AGO Headquarters. It is listed among other educational materials in the front of The American Organists.   It contains all kinds of nifty obscure material, for example: ++date of premier performances of organ works, oratorio, etc ++date of completion of major works by the composer ++date of famour organist beginning duties, resigning, etc   Much interesting information which is very helpful in planning music and interesting program notes for service or recital use.   There are also some very nice photographs and and reprinted drawings from various places.   I highly recommend it. And you can't beat the price!   bruce cornely cremona84000@webtv.net   If you eliminate smoking and gambling, you will be amazed to find that almost all an Englishman's pleasures can be, and mostly are, shared by his dog. -- George Bernard Shaw
