(back) Subject: Peggy Biggs From: "Judy A. Ollikkala" <71431.2534@compuserve.com> Date: Mon, 22 Mar 1999 09:00:11 -0500   Mrs. E. She has willed her Athol estate to the Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust, with plans to establish an arboreatum.

(back) Subject: Re: Question From: John Vanderlee <jovanderlee@vassar.edu> Date: Mon, 22 Mar 1999 12:08:49 -0500 (EST)   I visited the cavern in 1971 and the sound was quite eerie. It had an impressive console, but the thing was played automatically. The 45 RPM disc I bought was horrid in quality, virtually unplayable. I always wished that omethig better was out there.   They used a sander to tune the solenoid struck stalactites which rang with a dull glassy sound.   John V
(back) Subject: Re: Question From: DEMPAR1@aol.com Date: Mon, 22 Mar 1999 12:28:35 EST   Luray Caverns now offers the stalagpipe organ recording on a cassette tape. The quality is pretty reasonable. We bought a package with the cassette and a series of 35mm slides, from the Luray gift shop, for around $7 last year.   In a message dated 3/22/99 11:12:54 AM Central Standard Time, jovanderlee@vassar.edu writes:   << jovanderlee@vassar.edu (John Vanderlee) >>

(back) Subject: Stephen Williams Performance From: CHERCAPA@aol.com Date: Mon, 22 Mar 1999 21:07:50 EST   To the List: I was fortunate to attend a performance of Stephen Williams Fanfares and Frolics at St. John's Lutheran in Allentown,Pa. Thie organ has been rebuild by Reuters and started as a Skinner. Someone with more knowledge than I can give you the particulars. I have heard this organ four times, the next to last time played in an organ duel with Carlo Curley at the Reuter and Tom Hazleton at an Allen. Stephen Williams started the performance with Aaron Copeland's Fanfares for the Common Man with a registration of some of the best reeds I have heard. His selection of registration for Cabanilles' Batalla Imperial showed imagination expected only from a Emerson of Emerson, Lake and Palmer fame. Richard Wagner's Fanfare from Parsifal took me back to my childhood and Radio City's Easter Pageant of many years ago with its peaceful introspection. Between the sound of the organ and Mr. Williams's performance, me thinks that Orloc has a replacement waiting in the wings. Sincerely, Paul P. Valtos
