I'm sure we all know what Evensong is, but I'm not sure what an Advent Evangelism dinner is? I, of course, do know what dinner is . . . and am = one if best and frequent promoters. So, Bud, tell us about Advent Evangelism. Yours, Darryl by the Sea

(back) Subject: Evangelism Dinners From: "bud" <email@example.com> Date: Fri, 26 Nov 1999 09:05:16 -0800 Advent Evangelism Dinners (we also have them at other times, once or twice = a month on average) tie in with the quote from Father's Thanksgiving sermon = about Thanksgiving and Christmas being about the ONLY times we actually approach = the BIBLICAL way of keeping Sabbath ... worship, feasting, fellowship and REST = ... the dinners are a time to "keep Sabbath" ... worship, then have a party = and RELAX ... the "evangelism" part is that we also use them to invite new = members or people who have expressed interest in the church to worship and = fellowship with us. Sometimes we have Evensong; if there's a Prayer Book Holy Day that week, = we transfer it to Friday night (the only day of the week people have the = leisure to attend services and stay around to eat and just hang out) and have = Mass, but usually not the full-blown Solemn High Mass we have most Sundays ... our liturgy, as Steve noted, can be VERY formidable (grin). And if we DO have = Mass, we make sure visitors are paired with church members who can help them = find the place in the Prayer Book, etc. St. Nicholas isn't a Mass Day of Obligation for us, though it's in Lesser Feasts and Fasts, so we're having Evensong by anticipation (his actual feast-day is the following Monday) ... we do a lot of that, given that = we're a commuter parish.
