Habermaas" <opus1100@catoe.org> Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 09:43:17 -0600   I am sad to report that longtime Chicago Area Theatre organist Hal Pearl = died Thanksgiving day at the Methodist home in Chicago. Hal lived long enough = to celebrate his 92nd birthday this month. Hal's career spanned nearly the entire 20th Century including his time as the skating organist at the = White City Roller Rink at the famous southside Chicago amusement park, and as organist at the Chicago's Century of Progress. Hal was most widely known = as the organist at the Aragon Ballroom and played with my famous orchestras during the band era which included regular broadcasts from the Aragon on local radio. During the 70's the local PBS station produced a program featuring silent films called "The Toy That Grew Up" featuring Hal's accompaniment at the organ. Hal continued to perform into his 90's and regularly appeared for CATOE and the "Patio Showcase Productions" at the Patio's Barton Organ. Hal was an extremely versatile musician who was = capable of playing at such diverse venues as National Political Conventions , Graduations, Silent Films, and of course skating and ballroom dancing. Several generations of Chicago organ enthusiasts are indebted to Hal for = his many years of keeping the theatre organ alive for our enjoyment     jch   A more detailed obituary appeared in the November 24th Chicago Suntimes     <http://www.suntimes.com/output/obituaries/xpear24.html>

From: "VEAGUE" <dutchorgan@svs.net> Date: Sat, 25 Nov 2000 11:23:19 -0500   I well remember Hal when I was just a wee-lad in the 60's playing CATOE concerts at the (now gone) Montclare Theatre downtown Chicago.   He played national political conventions in Chicago? -Surely not at the Stadium-- that was reserved for Al Melgaard.   Rick
