(back) Subject: Tovey completion of Art of Fugue, publisher inquiry From: <steve@open-tech.com> Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 13:55:47 -0600   I hope this esteemed list can help. Does anyone know who publishes Donald Tovey's completion of Contrapunctus 14 of Bach's Art of Fugue. Private responses are probably best unless this is og general interest.   Thanks, Steve Chandler

(back) Subject: Art of Fugue From: "Bud" <Quilisma@socal.rr.com> Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 12:41:17 -0800   Completions of the last Contrapunctus are interesting, but I still like the old way of doing it ... let the last Contrapunctus trail off just as Bach left it, and then after a moment of silence, play "Before Thy Throne" from the Great Eighteen ... yeah, I know, it's a 19th century romantic thing, but it's SO effective ...   We did it that way when we (Dr. Roberta Gary, Robert Love and myself) played it in Cincinnati in '71, and again for a post-convention recital after the '72 AGO Convention in Dallas (Ken Nienhuis, Robert Love, Don Pearson and myself) on that lovely little Sipe tracker organ in the GLORIOUS acoustics of St. Stephen's Methodist in Mesquite, TX.   No, we didn't do it with three or four players at one organ (grin) ... we divided it up into three parts and four parts, respectively.   Cheers,   Bud
(back) Subject: Re: Virgil and Wanamaker's From: "Bob Conway" <conwayb@post.queensu.ca> Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 15:50:54 -0500   I would most wholeheartedly agree to the idea that Carlo Curley play a Memorial Recital for Virgil Fox on the Wanamaker Organ.   Unfortunately, there is no hope that I could be there, - but might I put forward the suggestion that if this recital should take place, it be recorded? All of us who are both Virgil, Carlo, and Wanamaker afficionado's would then be able to hear the wonderful results of such a recital!   Just my two penn'orth!   Bob Conway     "I am easily satisfied with the very best." (back) Subject: Re: Virgil and Wanamaker's From: "VEAGUE" <dutchorgan@svs.net> Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 18:44:44 -0500   I too would be in favor of such a recording of Carlo playing a tribute to 'The Fox' on the Wannamakers. I didn't know the instrument was in such bad condition.   Rick
(back) Subject: Re: Virgil and Wanamaker's From: "Charles Wertalik" <wertzl@earthlink.net> Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 19:54:36 -0500   A recording of such a recital would sure suit me, too! I am not exactly sure of the status of the organ but the two divisions that were under repair I think are being brought back on-line currently. Whenever the next STENTOR comes out I am sure there will be an updated status report.   David
