(back) Subject: Organ Pics From: <AMADPoet@aol.com> Date: Thu, 5 Apr 2001 18:50:27 EDT   Dear listers:   I wanted to share this website with all of you, especially the newbie organists like myself who are curious to see a variety of instruments. = This site contains some of the best organ photos I've found on the web, = covering organs in France, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark. Check out = the modern organ exhibition "Danish Organ Architecture"--the organs built in = the 1970's are wild. The website was created in hopes of showing the = connection between an organ and the building it resides in, and its creator did a = fine job.   Good day, Mandy   http://orgel.com/vlm/trib-e.html

Or something along those lines.   All said interrogator has to do is to go to my website:   http://www.mp3.com/arthurlamirande   There, he can hear both the entire Franz Schmidt Chaconne (conveniently divided into two tracks, for ease of listening), and an original improvisation of my own.   I think said interrogator will find that there is no Franz Schmidt = influence whatever in my own improvisation!   By the way: where is Ipswich? Cape Cod? Last time I was there was in = 1952. (back) Subject: Le Dossier de La Mirande From: <ResearchIV@aol.com> Date: Thu, 5 Apr 2001 22:03:42 EDT   DRUM ROLL PLEASE...   Artie, Artie, Artie... you don't remember me because I sang for you under = my maiden name (Lizzie Borden? Lizzie Bourdon?).   It's high time PipeChat was due an explanation of YOU, since you spend so much time talking about YOU, because you think the world revolves around YOU, but has been completely unfair to YOU, because they don't understand YOU, and don't appreciate YOU, and are jealous of YOU, because nobody is as brilliant as YOU.   If the world has turned its back on you for seventy years, while others have EARNED the spotlight, WON the competitions, PUBLISHED their music, been AWARDED recording contracts, and STILL HAVE THEIR CHURCH JOBS, then you're RIGHT!!! IT'S GOTTA TO DO WITH YOU!!! You! You! You!   Remember the thirty years of writing sick, evil, nasty, profane "poison = pen" letters to EVERY member of the AGO? And you wonder why they don't LIKE you? Remember insulting all those musicians who are NOW at the top of the = field? In positions of power? Able to help? And wonder why they don't put you on their recital series? All the angry phone calls and letters and threats just to get on a recital =   series? Remember going into a church with a tape recorder and recording music without permission to sell to the Musical Heritage Society?   EVER STOP TO THINK WHY THE WORLD DOESN'T GIVE A SQUIRREL'S NUT ABOUT F R A N Z S C H M I D T ?????   You're in your twilight years and don't have a clue, and spit your bitterness at others. Same old Arthur. 'Cept now you have the internet, and can be angry en masse. By the way, our distinguished orgelbaumeister spoke of your "departure" from Holy Name. Well, ain't he the sweet diplomat. You were tossed out, and it wasn't your only firing in your checkered past.   There is nothing wrong with self-promotion. We all do it. We have to. I may be a tough New York broad, but when I go to an audition, I prove = myself. And I ain't bein' gracious now, but believe me, I know how to be. You, Artie, do NOT. And as Thoreau might say, that's made all the difference.   J. Nygaard

(back) Subject: Re: Organs in movies/TV From: "VEAGUE" <dutchorgan@svs.net> Date: Thu, 5 Apr 2001 22:50:47 -0500   Two more organs to add to the movie list.   Mysterious Island. Jules Verne. Starring Herbert Lom as Capt. Nemo on a disabled Nautilus in a grotto -but the organ still plays. Unusual drawstops arranged horizontal barrel-like = on the key jambs. Awful facade.   A Pink Panther movie (can't remember the title) again starring Herbert Lom as a demented scientist who developes a disintregating raygun. His = oppulent mansion/lab houses a nice-looking organ with drawknobs that go on forever. The raygun finally gets everything in the end.   Antone want popcorn?   Rick

New (and sometimes very large) instruments are being installed in churches and concert halls every month. The POE's of the AGO are attracting many young people who are taken with the organ, and the leading centers of study are full of highly talented students. New organ recordings appear every month in the stores and many recitals I've heard lately have actually been well attended.   __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
