(back) Subject: Electronic, and pipe organs.... From: <Pologaptommy@aol.com> Date: Sat, 8 Dec 2001 01:37:26 EST   It is my understanding that the new Allen Renaissance stops can be = revoiced to sound like any existing, reputable organ that is out there. But even though a lot of organists dislike electronic organs, you have to admit that the Digital organ companies have vastly advanced, and some of = them could fool even the most experienced organists! Also what most people do not know is that on most new digital organs, the stops are actual recordings of real pipe ranks. Someone mentioned earlier =   that some people would not even capitalize the makers of digital organs = out of disrespect. I find that incredibly disrespectful, especially for Allen =   organs! There are organists that may not like the Allen organ company. I =   think they are the leaders in Digital Organ production, not because I = think they are the best, but because they were the FIRST to produce digital = organs, and they built some of the largest, most complex transistor organs in the world. With all the time, money, and research spent on making these wonderful organs (all makes) available, and affordable to church's world-wide, it is my belief that these companies should ONLY be shown = utmost respect. One should NEVER speak down to the companies that fill most of = the worlds church's with beautiful music. Thanks Josh

(back) Subject: Re: Electronic, and pipe organs.... From: "Ross & Lynda Wards" <TheShieling@xtra.co.nz> Date: Sat, 8 Dec 2001 22:06:24 +1300   My point was that these people do NOT fill any space with beautiful music, only with amplified sound that I find offensive. When in California 2 = years ago I heard, and played, a 4-deck allen with c150 stops, in a church = seating 1900. I couldn't stick full chorus at all, and the sound was so horrible = in the Bach P&F in G at the end that I had to leave after 3 minutes. Why respect the company that made and aggressively marketed the thing? They've spent money, sure, but that's only been able to be spent because it came from church pockets to begin with. Sorry, but no thanks. The fact that it uses tones taken from a pipe organ is irrelevant, as the moment it comes back at you it goes through a loudspeaker, and that makes it electronic = with a very different sound from a naturally-blown wind instrument. To illustrate: no producer of organ CDs would seriously suggest that his product sounds like the real thing. I took a very senior electronics = fellow in to hear our Wellington Town Hall organ - a Norman & Beard pneumatic = from 1906. My friend's comment was, "We couldn't even begin to match this, even if we had $10,000,000. Even today, we couldn't even begin to match the sound, even if we had no budget contraints whatever."
