It was people who caused all those wars and they did it under the guise of religion. That is not the same thing you know. (back) Subject: Re: console standards From: "Bob Elms" <elmsr@albanyis.com.au> Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 21:35:47 +0800   NO Bruce, I said nothing about mechanical action. I have no problem playing mechanical actions. In fact I believe they are superior to electric actions in many cases. You were talking about hand pumping organs and that was the subject of my post. I fail to see the advantage. Yes we have one mechanical action organ here which is hand or electric blower pumped. There is absolutely no difference in the sound or in playing it, unless the pumping slave slacks off. We don't seem to have any volunteers for the job! Wonder why? (back) Subject: Picketing of Felix Hell From: "Bob Acker" <pipeluvr@swbell.net> Date: Thu, 08 Mar 2001 09:29:00 -0600   Hello List:   Guess its time to quit lurking for a while . . .   I add my voice to those that are dismayed that the performance of this outstanding young artist would be picketed by those who would try to = impose their beliefs (or lack thereof) on any musical performer. Obviously if = they have personal issues with either the music or the artist, they should just stay home! As to a solution, I can only believe that if every organist, musician, music lover, and person of conscious within 200 miles shows up = for that concert, that the "picketeers" just might get the message!   As concerned as I am with the picketing, I am also concerned that this = forum is used for yet another opportunity to bash everyone and everything conservative, including the new administration. I consider myself conservative, yet this anticipated picket against the concert is as = abhorent to me as it is to all persons who believe in respect for one another. Comments such as "As an old-time labor union guy, I've got LOTS of ideas, all of which would guarantee no pickets at the Hell recital..." only serve to inflame the situation and are to me as wrong as the threat of a = picketing action which prompted the discussion. Such rhetoric can only serve to escalate the emotions that lead to dangerous confrontations that none of = us would want.   While Topeka is over nine hours away from me and can't be there physiclly, I'll be there in spirit for Felix!   Best wishes to all, Bob Acker Dallas
