(back) Subject: Proper 24C, in the land next door to hell From: "Glenda" <gksjd85@access.aic-fl.com> Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2001 13:02:25 -0500   St. Agatha's Episcopal Church DeFuniak Springs, Florida   Proper 24, Year C   Prelude: Lento, assai espressivo from 2 Slow Airs for Organ - Herbert Howells (1892 - 1983) Prelude and Madrigal, from 24 Pieces in Free Style - Louis Vierne (1870 - 1937) Processional Hymn: Guide me, O thou great Jehovah (Cwm Rhondda) - H 690 Gradual Psalm 121 (Remain seated; sung - Morley) Sequence Hymn: O Christ, the Word Incarnate (Munich) - H 632 Offertory Hymn: Savior, again to thy dear Name we raise (Ellers) - H 345 Music during Communion: Lift thine eyes (from Elijah) - Felix Mendelssohn I to the hills will lift mine eyes (tune Burford; text H 668) Closing Hymn: Hail to the Lord's anointed (Es flog ein kleins Waldvogelein) - H 616 Postlude: Cortege from 24 Pieces in Free Style - Louis Vierne   Music during communion paraphrases the Gradual Psalm for today. The final hymn is in honor of the feast day of St. Luke the Evangelist, the patron = of physicians. Other special music honors the birthdays of Howells (17th), whose music forms a staple of the Church of England, and Vierne (8th), French organist and composer who was a pupil of Franck and Widor, = assistant to Widor at Saint-Sulpice, and organist at Notre Dame from 1900 until his death.   I wanted to do Howell's first psalm prelude, which is one of my favorites, but just didn't have time to get it ready to my satisfaction. In fact, = I've never played it in public, only piddled with it for my own private = purposes. A weird mystery - my CD of Howells' music that I bought last year is missing! I scoured everwhere that we store CDs, and my entire car, to no avail. I can't imagine that anyone would TAKE it, but I have put it in a totally safe place now.   Regards on a totally hot October day (we're winterizing, but the weather isn't cooperating),   Glenda Sutton
