(back) Subject: fundamentalism From: <quilisma@socal.rr.com> Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 13:06:26 -0700   Jerry Falwell's and Pat Robertson's remarks only serve to illustrate the very real danger of fundamentalism, whether Islamic or Christian. Neither can preach hate on the one hand and then piously seek to wash their hands on the other when the violence they aid, abet and encourage actually HAPPENS. They CREATE the climate; it's simple enough to find people to carry out their IDEAS.   I don't doubt that we will see a marked increase in violence perpetrated by AMERICANS against the groups they mentioned as a result of their EVIL remarks.   Bud Clark

The anthem originally planned is not appropriate.   If he is not back, we will probably have the choir sing "America".   Not having a last verse harmonization at hand I have worked one out and, if you like, I would be glad to send you a copy back by email. It will open with Acrobat Reader.   I have it in the keys of F or G...specify one or both.   noel jones
(back) Subject: Re Ground Zero and Sebastion and Paul Valtos's coments From: "Wayne Grauel" <wgvideo@attglobal.net> Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 18:16:36 -0400   Jerry, that was a good reply and it had a lot of facts that many people don't want to hear or believe.   Unfortunately, I really took great offense at Sebastions comments and even more so to Paul's rediculous comments so here it goes! ************************************* Paul Valtos wrote=85.   Dear Seb, Agreed. The last person in the world to lead this nation at this time is dumbya. I have heard that Saddam is involved and he wanted to embarrass George Sr.'s son after what the first Bush did to him. God help America.   ********************************************************************* Paul, & Sebastian .   I find both of your comments totally unconscionable at this time.   Sebastian, you wanted the president to come to New York and hold your hand=85. You have Bill Clinton up there. He was on the news last night all teary eyed hugging crying women. The last thing New York needed this week was for president Bush to divert his attention from the critical task at hand and go to New York,. Isn=92t it possible that he realized that it would be nothing more than grand standing, no matter how much he wanted to be there? It stands to reason that an appearance early on would be disrupting the rescue efforts by creating a logistical nightmare with the security that would be involved and further hampering rescue efforts and loosing valuable life saving time! What exactly are your priorities? You talk about being a Grizzly bear, one that obviously has no comprehension for good common sense (or at least thinking beyond the obvious)!   Had president Bush gone to New York, countless precious man hours would have been lost in both rescue efforts on the part of your people up there, and in spear heading the trail of evidence and data collection needed by every intelligence source in the country. So=85 do you want him up there grand standing like Bill Clinton would have done, or do you want him out of the way so that the people who have a job to do can get it done.   And Paul Valtos=85 You take the cake! Your use of the word = =93dumbya=94 is totally disrespectful and completely out of line! Your stereotypical left wing intolerant attitude, as exhibited by that ridiculous statement has left me totally enraged.   Ask any of my =93left wing=94 friends and they will tell you that I am not at all intolerant, but at this point I=92m going to speak my mind!   In light of what our nation has gone through and what president Bush is up against, you have a lot of nerve to prejudge and demean the office of the president. The nerve of you to sit back and use a snide nickname to refer to our president during a national crisis really takes the cake. Other than to say=85. Sir, you are a compete short-sighted, ignorant fool and rather than call you dumbya, I think that dumb-ass is probably more appropriate!   Why don=92t you assemble the facts and use some sound judgement before calling the president names and then further asserting your total ignorance of the facts by saying =94you heard that Saddam=85=85=85=85.=94   Good Grief!   There.... and I still don't feel better!   Wayne Grauel

(back) Subject: a Pastoral Message (and a note to Paul) From: "Wayne Grauel" <wgvideo@attglobal.net> Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 18:44:39 -0400   First, now that I've calmed down and read through 3 list digests I feel the need to apologize publicly to Paul for the name calling, I was extremely frustrated after reading those posts and did not appropriately express or vent myt frustration an some other way.....everything else I meant! :>) Sorry Paul!   This is a message that I got from a pastor that I have the absolute privilage of working with. Our brief time working together was based on total respect and appreciation for the other's gifts. It goes to show how we all remember the good ones!   Well, read Clif's message here.   Pastoral Message September 12, 2001   At the time of writing this reflection, I am listening to radio reports about the tragic chain of events in New York, Washington DC, and Somerset County, PA. This diabolical series of terrorist attacks is shaking our nation to its very roots. As free people we find these heinous acts of violence almost inconceivable. Yet, they did happen in a degree greater than that of Pearl Harbor. This unprovoked and cowardly attack is utterly evil in nature.   My immediate reaction was of great distress and sorrow, as I thought about the loss of life involved. My eyes misted as I was watching live coverage when I saw the second plane rammed the remaining tower. Then, the first tower of the International Trade Center fell to the earth. A short time later the second tower fell. I became fearful. Symbols of United States Commerce, Military, and Politics had been attacked. What came to mind in my distress were the words of Jesus of =93fear not little flock.=94 The context of these words of Jesus is found in Luke 12: 29-32. There our Lord said:   Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you--you of little faith! And do not keep striving for what you are to eat and what you are to drink, and do not keep worrying. For it is the nations of the world that strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. "Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.=94   As we reflect on these words of the Lord, we can remind ourselves that ultimately God will prevail. Jesus has conquered sin, death and the evil one. In this world there is no absolute security. Our citizenship is in heaven with our Lord. However, there are some things we can and should do at a time like this. First, we can pray as individually and collectively. Second, those who are able may donate blood to help those in need. Third, we can show our resolve by not panicking. Fourth, we can affirm our commitment to God by being regular in worship. Fifth, we can show kindness and love to one another. Sixth, we can donate to Lutheran World Relief, the Red Cross and other emergency services. Seventh, we can express our heartfelt gratitude to all emergency workers. I am sure that you might think of many more things that would make this world a better place by showing Christ=92s love for others. What is important is to act positively to this tragedy. Let it serve as a wake-up call that evil does exist in this world. In Christ, we can conquer evil with loving goodness.   God bless you. Peace,   The Rev. Dr. Clifton J. Suehr
