Because I have been forewarned about a previous funeral in this family and because of pressing court matters, I declined. Arp! ******************************************   Hi "Grandpa Arp",   Another "Pipe" in the "Rank". Is the pitch a 3-rank mixture or a Nazard? Or, with the name of Horn...an 8'?   Congratulations!   Bonnie Beth Derby orge@dreamscape.com
(back) Subject: Re: strange requests From: "John Foss" <harfo32@hotmail.com> Date: Sat, 24 Aug 2002 14:16:36 +0000   Hymns "Fight the good fight" and "Through the night of doubt and sorrow" = and "Phil the Fluter's ball" for the signing of the registry at weddings, and "We'll meet again..." for a funeral. On one occasion a trendy curate had me billed as "John Foss and the Fossilites" for a youth service without asking me. They had even gone as = far as having the posters printed! I put my foot down - the posters were destroyed. (back) Subject: A Lancashire Organ Crawl (Part One) LONG From: <cmys13085@blueyonder.co.uk> Date: Sat, 24 Aug 2002 15:25:40 +0100     WE MEET AT THE FIRKIN ORGANIST   It was after Sunday Evensong that a group of us met in the "Firkin & = Organist" public house where we hppened upon a bright idea. Why = shouldn't we arrange an organ crawl in Lancashire?   Our company consisted of my cousin David, (a gatherer of taxes for Her = Britannic Majesty and an organist of no mean ability), a glass = transparency restoration expert (a window cleaner) by the name of Horace = Augustus, the eminent Dr Davis (better known as 'Dickie' for some = obscure reason) and, of course, the maestro himself, the celebrated = Ominbusque Trodoffski (a world authority on leaning chimmneys, old gas = lamps, public transport and a former organ scholar at the most famous = univeristy in the land). Repoutation has it that, during his tenure as = organ scholar, he only once ever removed his Macintosh overcoat, and = then, only to perform the Durufle Toccata on a tracker-actioned organ on = midsummer's day). Happy to carry the briefcase of one and the darkest = secrets of the others, my social position within this tiny gathering of = unrelated minds was that of bemused batman and father confessor.   As someone who only ever drinks tea and vintage port (often from the = same receptacle), the strange ritual of observing the ascendent bubbles = in a pint of freshly hand-pumped real-ale had as much appeal to me as a = cathlolic ritual. Nevertheless, for the eleventh time that evening, eyes = attempted to focus on the amber liquid as bubbles rose slowly towards = the foaming head.   With obvious glee and satisfaction, my cousin growled from beneath a = transfixed smile; his lips barely moving and his eyes moving strangely = out of synchronisation, "Aaaaaah! There' nowt like a firkin pint!"   Heads nodded and swayed in agreement.   Horace Augustus gave a gap-toothed-grin, "Aye! It's got real substance, = power and gravity.....there's nowt like it!" His lips smacked together = as he drew another quaff; a tide-mark of foam blending with his unruly = moustache.   "What about an Arthur Harrison Open Diapason No.1?" I asked   The maestro paused for a few moments before he broke out into a broad = grin, "Hey! He's right tha knows!"   A baroque moment was avoided thanks to modern glass technology, as the = maestro raised his glass and crashed it into three others, followed by = the toast, "To Arthur Firkin Harrison!"     (To be continued....)     Colin Mitchell UK =20
