C's aren't "church style organs", they're "a console Hammond in the wooden box most suited to church interior design".   CV's aren't bad little beasts. I've had one in my office for several years....and I have to say, the quatrefoils do NOT match the rest of the furniture. LOL   Have fun! Ad ;->
(back) Subject: Not quite the last picture show! From: "John Foss" <harfo32@hotmail.com> Date: Mon, 30 Dec 2002 09:37:05 +0000     Dear List, John Leeming posted the following on Second Touch - there is a final = "final" fling on Friday 3rd featuring Simon Gledhill Subject: LAST NIGHT OF THE EMD CINEMA - formerly the GRANADA Friday 3rd January 2003. 7.45pm. EMD Cinema, 186 Hoe Street, London E17.   THE LAST NIGHT OF THE EMD CINEMA - A LANDMARK CHARITY GALA EVENT The closing night of Waltham Forest's EMD Cinema is to be commemorated by the McGuffins with a special charity gala evening featuring classic films, live music and guest speakers. The event will feature rare film footage from the early days of the cinema as well as cartoons and newsreels from the 1930's when the venue was first opened. The classic comedy "The Smallest Show On Earth" will be screened = in Cinema 1 as the main feature of the evening. The film - which boasts an all-star cast including Virginia McKenna, Peter Sellers, Leslie Phillips, Margaret Rutherford, Sid James and Bill Travers - tells the story of a hapless newly married couple who inherit a derelict cinema and their hilarious attempts to revive it as a thriving business.   A number of guest speakers from the entertainment and political worlds = will be in attendance at the EMD on the night.   There will also be a performance by rock band Glorious who will recall the venue's heydey as a live music mecca with rendidtions of songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who and The Kinks (all of whom performed = at the EMD during the 1960's). In addition, the internationally acclaimed musician Simon Gledhill will join members of the Cinema Organ Society to give a final recital on the EMD's historic Christie Organ - the last surviving example of this instrument in a British cinema. McGuffin members have spent recent months restoring Cinema 1 to its original 1930's appearance and the final results will be unveiled on the night.   All proceeds from the show will be donated to Haven House Children's Hospice.   Ownership of the building transfers to the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG) the following day although their plans to turn the cinema = into a church were recently thrown out by Waltham Forest council's Planning Committee and will now be referred to a public enquiry next year. 'Save = The Cinema' petitions will be available for audience members to sign at the event and these will be forwarded to central government in due course.   The event takes place at the EMD Cinema, 186 Hoe Street, London E17 on Friday 3rd January 2003 at 7.45pm. Tickets will be available on the door from 7pm, price 6 (3 concessions). For further details visit the website at http://www.mcguffin.info   STOP PRESS: The national Planning Inspectorate - who will decide whether = the Universal Church Of The Kingdom Of God can be granted permission to turn = the EMD Cinema into a church - has extended the date for members of the public to lodge objections to the plan. The new date is 12 JANUARY 2003.
