From: "Joshua Edwards" <fbcorganist@charter.net> Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2002 10:53:11 -0500   This is a multi-part message in MIME format.   ------=3D_NextPart_000_0003_01C1BC58.499303C0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=3D"us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit   There are four organs in Jefferson City that are worth noting. There is a 44-rank Schantz with a glorious Trompette-en-chemade. Then there is the 32-rank Reuter organ in the recital hall here at the college. This is the one we use to perform most of the time. Then 1st Methodist has a 20- or 21- (somewhere in there) rank Randall Dyer (Jefferson City Organ Builder) organ that is interfaced with the Allen MDS expander. The last organ to note is the 12-15 rank organ at the 1st Presbyterian church. It is a wonderful little instrument and Bach performs well on it. We are only 20 minutes from Morristown which boasts a 60 rank, 45? rank, and some other small ones.... then we are only 25 minutes from Knoxville which holds an 4 manual 85 rank Schantz (an awesome instruments) and a 4 manual 128 rank equivalent Allen Custom organ. As a student we are fortunate to be close to some very nice instruments and really to have our own organ to practice and perform on here at the college. (back) Subject: Mander Website - Two New Items of Interest From: "Malcolm Wechsler" <manderusa@earthlink.net> Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2002 12:48:29 -0500   At least, I find them of interest!   Dear Lists and Friends,   On the Mander Organs Website, there is a new article, with photographs, about the newest Mander Organ in the U. S., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, St. Louis, Missouri. It is to be dedicated by Daniel Roth this Tuesday evening. Perhaps some of you are close enough to attend. The church also has a small Mander Chamber Organ in its chapel, and there is a photograph and stoplist of that as well. Organist at St. Peter's is William Aitken.   There is also a most interesting article about the just completed restoration of the wonderful Hill organ at St. Mary-at-Hill, London. There is a photograph of the interior after the disasterous fire of 1988, and a photograph of the beautiful restored case, as it looks today. There is also a console photograph.   Once you have entered the site, just click on Portfolio, and then scroll down the these two saints.   Cheers,   Malcolm Wechsler www.mander-organs.com

Traveling from the center of St. Louis, take Interstate 64 / US Highway 40 west to the Clayton Road exit, and turn left at the end of the ramp. Then almost immediately turn right on Warson Road and travel north a mile or so. You will see the neo-colonial brick church facing you on the corner.   John Speller

The building committee of the church I serve is renovating the chancel and trying to put a digital piano in place of the baby grand currently there (to save space). In your experience, what are the pros and cons of digital pianos? Peggy B ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! From: <vze2qddg@verizon.net> Date: Sat, 23 Feb 2002 17:53:00 -0500   Peggy, I own a Kurzweil, teach voice with it, and find it unsatisfactory as a piano! I do use the organ stop to practice organ music on, and that's ok, just not beautiful! I find the touch erratic, and if I miss something, stumble a bit, whatever, suddenly I get loud notes that pop out. It's all my mistakes, but it's very hard to regulate the balance of sounds. My advice to your committee is - FORGET IT!!! NOTHING replaces a real piano. R.
(back) Subject: Re: Age to start piano lessons. From: "Ross & Lynda Wards" <TheShieling@xtra.co.nz> Date: Sun, 24 Feb 2002 12:51:02 +1300   Well, for a start, there is no such thing as a "digital piano." A piano is an instrument in which strings are struck by hammers. No hammers or = strings, no piano, no piano touch, no piano tone.
