(back) Subject: Re: Lutheran Book of Worship From: "Paul Soulek" <soulek@frontiernet.net> Date: Wed, 06 Mar 2002 21:11:59 -0600   Our congregation has used Lutheran Worship (LBW modified by the LC-MS) since 1985. Our organist plays all hymns out of the "old" hymnal (The Lutheran Hymnal (TLH) 1941, CPH). That can be very bad at times, though, as many of the melodies change, subtly. So if someone is trying to READ the music from the hymnal, good luck. But it works out most of the time.   I play out of LW, but usually come up with my own harmonizations. Some of the new harmonizations are nice at times....but for the most part I stick with my own thing. I DO however, like the new liturgies that were included---"This Is the Feast" is one of my absolute favorites---there are so many things to do with that one. The updating of the words can be nice, but the musical changes that accompanied the changed words were horrible at times. I know that the LC-MS is creating a new hymnal for distribution around 2007. More information on that is available at <http://worship.lcms.org/>.   Paul Soulek Bethel Lutheran Church LC-MS Round Lake, MN
