(back) Subject: SARS spreads in church From: "Nelson Denton" <ndenton@cogeco.ca> Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 23:02:09 -0400   Bad news folks I don't mean to be a panic maker here folks but I think we should all = think twice about this growing crisis especially those of you who are in this week's upcoming church services.   Canadian Health authorities have admitted "SARS" is a growing problem with no end in sight. They have officially stated that the disease is now just = 1 step away from spreading to the general public with no way to track it = down or control it.   Major precations are being ordered by Canadian church officials to slow = down the spread of the disease. The cases reported now are now 5 degrees of separation from the original victims.   Both the Anglican Church of Canada and the Roman Catholic church have = agreed to change the rituals of Easter services. There will be no kissing of the cross and no sharing of communal wine chalices or solitary confessions. Kisses, handshakes and hugs amongst the congregation has been ruled out as well. Those who have been exposed to = the disease or have any symptums of the disease or any similar symptums are being asked not to attend church this week.   One Toronto church group has all it's 500 members are in strict = quarintine after they held a funeral service for one of the first victims of the disease April 1st. 31+ members now have SARS.   Although the disease has been identified and DNA mapped there is no 100% effective cure or treatment for it. I'd suggest anyone who is in charge of Easter services to plan accordingly and request that anyone who shows signs of the disease or thinks that they may have been exposed to the disease to avoid going to church.   There is no need to panic but soon there might be. Be prepared for change.   Now lets get back to the happy stuff. Weddings and your favourite organs.   Nelson.
(back) Subject: What's up for Easter? From: <Pepehomer@aol.com> Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 23:24:33 -0400   I'm surprised that the yearly discussion hasn't been started about Easter = yet, so I'll start. Due to that I have been so busy lately, I haven't had = any time to get something up new for Easter, so I'm going with the old = standbys. I guess it's not bad, since I only do them once a year anyway! = Prelude is "Toccata on Christ the Lord is Risen Today" by Bish, offeratory = is the variations on "O Filii Et Filiae" (sp? No hymnal with me) by = Dandrieu (in the Biggs book), and, of course, the Widor Toccata for the = postlude. Standard Lutheran hymns at both services.   Justin Karch Organist, Holy Trinity LCMS Rome, GA
