Once in a while, just for fun, I lead them on and just before we're about to exchange information I pull out. Revenge on my part I guess.   AjM   -----Original Message----- From: pipechat@pipechat.org [mailto:pipechat@pipechat.org]On Behalf Of D. Keith Morgan Sent: Friday, February 07, 2003 12:16 AM To: Pipechat; University of Albany Subject: ORGAN SCAMS   Someone wrote in regarding an organ scam.   I'd like to tell you about another scam going around. I've been getting long letters presumably from South Africa from people wanting my bank account number so that they could smuggle huge sums of money our of the country (usually for about $25,000,000).
(back) Subject: RE: ORGAN SCAMS From: "D. Keith Morgan" <aeolian_skinner@yahoo.com> Date: Fri, 7 Feb 2003 06:34:07 -0800 (PST)   Dar Andrew:   I like your sense of humor.   When the banks call telling me that I have been pre-approved for their credit cards, I lead them on and tell them to send me the paper work so I can fill it out and get it approved by my parole officer. I've never heard back from any of them. When they mail their propaganda to me with a pre-paid postage envelope, I write "No thanks" on the application and put it and all other trach mail I can get into the envelope and send it back to them.   Also, when they are selling something aimed at women and ask to speak to my spouse, I tell them "I'm sorry, but he's not here at the moment." That ends that conversation.   D. Keith Morgan   --- Andrew Mead <mead@eagle.ca> wrote: > I get these requests all the time. Once in a while, just for fun, I |lead them on and just before we're about to exchange information I |pull out. Revenge on my part I guess.   if you want to have some fun with those types of scammers, keep in mind that they _must_ give you working contact info for their scheme to work. so if you sent them, say, the FTC's fraud reporting fax number as your fax number, the results are potentially gratifying: http://www.quatloos.com/brad-c/elvis.htm is particularly amusing. actually i'm not even sure if the FTC has such a fax number, but you get the point.   on another topic, i'm a fairly recent addition to pipechat and hope i'm not repeating a previous discussion (i glanced through the archives), but i'd like to ask you all for music recommendations.   my church is sort of a special case as this is an orphanage chapel - a congregation of about 150, 100 of whom are children or teenagers. accessibility is a major concern in choosing pieces for the service. another concern is difficulty, as i'm a professional computer nerd but an organ dilletante - they've gotten good doses of mass for the convents, the orgelbuchlein, stanley voluntaries, and annum per annum, for example.   which brings me to my question(s): what are your favorite pieces for worship? crowd pleasers? any that offer a lot of "bang for the buck?" what pieces or collections couldn't you live without?   thanks in advance :) donald www.ibiblio.org formerly known as SunSITE 919.962.5646 and stoof.
