(back) Subject: Organs in Italy From: <BlueeyedBear@aol.com> Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 23:34:24 -0400   my church choir is going to italy in less than 2 weeks. i'm a little = apprehensive about what to expect as far as the organs are concerned. = obviously, they're not going to conform to AGO standards. i'm hoping = someone can tell me what to expect. we'll be performing at:   chiesa santa maria dei ricci, florence chiesa san paolino, lucca chiesa san agostino, san gimignano basilica san francesco, assisi chiesa san giuliana, perugia   can anybody help me?   muchos danke,   scot
(back) Subject: Re: Organs in Italy From: "noel jones" <gedeckt@usit.net> Date: Sat, 14 Jun 2003 00:08:57 -0400   Scot...   You will not find AGO pedalboards.   You may find, on the oldest instruments, wooden lock down levers near the = pedals that serve as preset pistons....I'm not kidding you.   While living in Barga, I played for a wedding in Castelnuovo, above Lucca = in the mountains and had to deal with this, a rudimertary pedal board, a soloist = who (she) was not allowed to walk through the monastery to reach the organ = loft but had to sing from the oppopsite public balcony, all to the song of = canaries, as their loft was off our loft...raised by the monks for income. Made a = rather lovely wedding.   Many organs are in very poor shape or totally unplayable, so you must go preparred for everything...I did play a lovely instrument in Pisa. The = church in Barga nearest the Theatre dei Differenti had a very early = instrument...of which they were very, very proud...which, when the case was opened = revealed a brand new two rank unit chest and all new pipework wired to a new console.   While you are in Lucca, stroll around the walls of the city, and take in = the historic open air sewers, of which they are very proud.   -- noel jones, aago athens, tennessee, usa 423 887-7594 ------------------------------- frog music press, publishing MIDI music moderator, rodgers organ users group at www.frogmusic.com

(back) Subject: public domain organ music update(xpost) From: "Jonathan Orwig" <giwro@earthlink.net> Date: Fri, 13 Jun 2003 23:04:04 -0700   This is a multi-part message in MIME format.   ------=3D_NextPart_000_00C3_01C33200.16094180 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=3D"iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable   Hello friends,   About 9 months ago I asked the lists to give me an idea about the =3D interest in putting Public Domain organ music on the internet for download. Many of you expressd an interest, =3D some of you even offered to help   I am sorry to say I have not gotten much completed in the last 9 months, = =3D and most of the folks who initially offered to help seem to have found it too much of a burden (not all - =3D some of you kindly sent lists of your PD treasures to me... thanks, and you know who you are! <grin>)   Now for the good news....   I am happy to report that I have started the huge task of scanning the 8 volume series "Les Maitres Contemporains de l'orgue", and will report my progress on the list(s) as I wade =3D through this task. I have 2 of the volumes in my possession, a friend will be supplying 3 more, and I solicit your help to find the remaining 3 volumes.... those being volumes 4,5 and 7.   There is much fine, easy, sight-readable music in these volumes (and =3D some more challenging works as well in Vol 7 and 8)   I would be glad to post a link for the first 8 pages of volume 6 if =3D there is sufficient interest... please be kind about the quality of the scans, as these are very old and fragile scores... I've cleaned =3D them up as much as I can without taking hours per page, but there are still parts of the music that didn't scan well, especially near the edges.   Best to all,   Jonathan Orwig       --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
