Despite (or, dare one | say, because of) its pedigree this relatively small 3 manual has 4 | superb reeds - swell oboe and cornopean, choir clarinet and | choir/great trumpet. This latter is a big one! It has very little | upperwork and no 16ft stops at all on the manuals, although swell | octave/suboctave and choir suboctave, with their associated couplers | to other manuals, are available. Of particular note are two lovely | strings - a viol d'orchestre on the swell (as well as a voix celeste) | and a gamba on the choir. I can provide a full spec for anyone who'd | like to see it. | | It's pneumatic action and was last thoroughly overhauled 20 years ago. | Current problems are mainly to do with the heating system: some stops | are temperamental (no joke intended!) when the church is hot and both | pedal 16fts cipher from time to time (on different notes). The tuning | varies widely over the year and the tuners have suggested that it's a | waste of time tuning at all during the cold season. | | It's a fine, good sounding instrument and a pleasure to play. I hope | to be able to arrange some recitals in the not too distant future. | | The Church uses a wide range of musical styles, but is very keen on | retaining the organ in its full glory. Typically, 2 Sundays per month | are organ only with mainly traditional music, family service is | mainly modern with piano and instruments and the 4th may be a mixture | of the two. Regardless of what music is used during the service, I | try to ensure that the organ is used at least for voluntaries in each | service. Given the mix of musical tastes within the clergy and | people, this seems a good mix. | | I hope that you find all this interesting! | | Regards, | David Austin.   ------_=3D_NextPart_001_01C313B7.DEE8D690 Content-Type: text/html; charset=3D"iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable   <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D3D"Content-Type" CONTENT=3D3D"text/html; =3D charset=3D3Diso-8859-1"> <META NAME=3D3D"Generator" CONTENT=3D3D"MS Exchange Server version =3D 5.5.2653.12"> <TITLE>RE: Hello to everybody</TITLE> </HEAD> <BODY>   <P><FONT SIZE=3D3D2>Dear Peter,</FONT> </P>   <P><FONT SIZE=3D3D2>Thanks for your message.</FONT> </P>   <P><FONT SIZE=3D3D2>I will try to get together a specification of the =3D organ. (back) Subject: Re: Tornado From: "Colin Mitchell" <cmys13085@yahoo.co.uk> Date: Tue, 6 May 2003 12:56:52 +0100 (BST)   Hello,   You should be so lucky!   We seldom greet anyone without reference to the weather in the UK.   Take April.....they even wrote a song called "April Showers".....so what happens?   By 3rd May, everything was dying of thirst and it was like mid-summer. Now we are into Summer (almost) and close to "flaming" June, we are suffering gales, buckets of rain and freezing winds.   The organ I play, so normally indiferrent to changes of humidity/temperature, threw a wobbly. I had cyphers, sticking notes, couplers not coupling properly etc. In fact, I was all set to call in the boys. As for the tuning....talk about "Meantone".   Anyway, after a fortnight of this, I decided to trot down yesterday (Bank Holiday) to check it out and do a bit of much needed TLC to the Koppel Flute and wood Gedackt, which both go out of tune quite easily.   What do I find after two weeks of wet, wet, wet?   Apart from the couplers, which needed a small amount of adjustment, and the perennial Flute adjustments required, the beguiling enchantress was back to normal and everything was working as it should.   What joy!!   Regards,   Colin Mitchell UK   PS: I want to chase Twisters in Tornado Alley in a big "Hummer". I saw a little one once in the UK, which picked up a piece of paper and carried it across the street......I was hooked.     --- ScottFop@aol.com wrote: > We got much heavy rain in short spurts last night > and through the night, and > there were copious amounts of unusually heavy winds, > but no other major > damage or problems that I know of around here.     __________________________________________________ Yahoo! I meant organ without other instruments when I said "organ only". We do = have a small choir of ladies who sing unison each Sunday. I am not the choirmaster due to inavailability during the week due to work commitments. We'd be very keen to hear from someone who would like to take on the job!
