(back) Subject: 35 rank organ home From: "Stephen Best" <stevebest@usadatanet.net> Date: Thu, 14 Apr 2005 16:58:35 -0400   Anyone want a $650K home complete with pipe organ? This Connecticut listing was apparently sent to everyone with an address on the AGO headquarters website.   http://www.erikareti.com/html/h650barton410orange.html   Steve Best in Utica, NY

And you thought you'd never get a glimpse of the College of Cardinals (almost as good as watching the annual running of the Lemmens into the = sea).   Sebastian M. (back) Subject: this week's 2nd and 3rd mp3s From: "Jonathan Orwig" <giwro@adelphia.net> Date: Fri, 15 Apr 2005 00:24:19 -0700   .....an embarassment of riches this week:   *Choralwerke Vol. 1 by Johann Nepomuk David*   No. 1 - Allein Gott in der H=F6h <ftp://diapason.dk/toccata/David,%20Johann%20Nepomuk/JNDavidChoralwerkvol1n= o1AlleinGott.mp3> - ftp://diapason.dk/toccata/David,%20Johann%20Nepomuk/JNDavidChoralwerkvol1no= 1AlleinGott.mp3 No. 2 - Christ ist erstanden - <ftp://diapason.dk/toccata/David,%20Johann%20Nepomuk/JNDavidChoralwerkvol1n= o2Christ%20isterstanden.mp3> ftp://diapason.dk/toccata/David,%20Johann%20Nepomuk/JNDavidChoralwerkvol1no= 2Christ%20isterstanden.mp3   These 2 pieces come from the first volume of JN David's Choralwerk. It is easy to see how his compositional style became more dissonant by comparing these to the 3 I've already posted from Vol. 7.   Allein Gott in der H=F6h asks for a rather strange registration:   Man. II - Rohrflute 8 and Sesquialtera Man. I - Principal 8 and Oktave 4 Pd. - 16 and 4   This sounds like it makes sense, until one realizes that the Chorale melody is hidden on manual I! It is a nice little piece, though, with a repeating, wistful, dotted motif in the accompaniment.   Christ is erstanden is subtitled "Kleine Fantasie", and is basically a miniature Prelude and quasi-Fugue or. The Prelude is full of improvisiatory flair, sporting runs and flourishes that proclaim triumphantly "Christ is Arisen!". The Fugal section is more tightly constructed, with the theme of the chorale hidden as the countersubject to the Fugue... well it is SORT of a fugue as it ends differently, and doesn't go through full development of the subject. _It is an_ ingenious piece, though! I continue to be impressed with Herr David's ingenuity..   Enjoy!   -- Jonathan Orwig Evensong Music, Media and Graphics New Organ Music http://www.evensongmusic.net   As always, I remind you that this site where the file is located is a LEGAL repository of private recordings of organ music.
